To help students make the most from their study abroad, the European Commission has developed a European Credit Transfer System, (ECTS), which provides a way of measuring and comparing learning achievements, and transferring them from one institution to another. One year of study in the European Union has to correspond to 60 ECTS. One semester of study should correspond to around 30 ETCS. A student coming to Rennes will obtain the 60 necessary ECTS over the whole year (25 ECTS with the seminars for the first semester and 35 ECTS for the second semester).
